The collaboration marks a historic milestone as the world’s first defence-sector deployment of biological data storage, setting a new benchmark for long-term data preservation.

What are your expectations as your solution moves into the assessment phase? And your lessons learned?
As we move into the assessment phase, our goal is to turn a successful demonstration into a real path toward adoption. The pilot proved that DNA data storage works in an operational defence setting, with 100% error-free retrieval. Now we focus on consolidating those results, completing our durability testing, and working with the buyer to define what deployment looks like in practice, including our joint preparation for NATO’s Rapid Adoption Service.
The biggest lesson has been that engaging an early adopter teaches you things no market study can. We went in to validate a technology and came out with a clearer business model. We learned that defence buyers want to own their infrastructure rather than rely on a service, which reshaped our roadmap toward on-premise hardware, and that the conversation has to shift from the cost of storage to the cost of risk. Most importantly, the pilot opened doors we hadn’t anticipated, surfacing new use cases and connecting us to the wider defence innovation ecosystem.
